The Misspoken Word
I love puns, words with double meanings, or mixed up words in a sentence, like “I’m going to take my oil in to change my car.” And how many times have I asked my son to go throw ice on the sidewalk? I mean salt, but I usually say “go throw some ice on the ice.” A lot of good that will do.
Mixing metaphors, too, are usually good for an inside laugh. I recently heard a woman who was comparing two things say, “On the same hand . . .” instead of “on the other hand.” What about “we could stand here and talk until the cows turn blue,” or “He was watching me like I was a hawk.” It’s not only the mixed up words that are funny, but how the person believes what he or she is saying is accurate.
It’s fun playing with the English language to get a chuckle out of someone, but there is a time when the misspoken word is not funny; when the Word is misspoken. Scripture is God’s Word to us and there is a lot at stake if we misread, misinterpret, or misspeak it.
We’re all capable of misreading certain Scripture passages, but I’m talking about the major doctrines. It’s vital that we stand firm on what the Bible clearly teaches.
2 Timothy 2:15 says “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
The truth may be veiled to those who are perishing (2 Corinthians 4:3), but if we believers are confused about something someone is telling us about the Word of God, we should investigate further and find out what Scripture really teaches.

A Lady in my church aced me,hows your wife. I said shes in a lot of pain, and to that the lady said you should not say that because its self fulfilling prophesy . I do not understand this.
@Howard, I have had the same train of thought used often with me. Once it involved my husband who was gravely ill. I expressed my concern to a friend that I was concerned he was dieing. She rebuked me for saying such a thing. He was dead the next day. I have also been on fbook for only a short period of time but the amount of unGODLY talk and mistreatment of GOD’S WORD is overwhelming. I respond with scripture that inturprets scripture. I am scorned and my children are harassed by members in the youth group. my children are also brought into conversations having to do with discrediting me because others think they know how to manage my life better then I am sorry to sound so negative but your message today really rang a bell in my heart!
Hello Howard,
It’s common in Christian community’s in my country to often prophecy or say we are well in such a way the next brother/sister will understand and give the appropriate response.
For instance if a sister asked me “How are you?” the normal response is “I am fine.”, but if I were ill I’ll respond with “I am very strong.”, and she will immediately understand and respond with a line like “It is well.”.

I have been saved by his grace. I have been healed from some of my addictions. I have survived overdoses, suiced attempts, sexual abuse, rapes, and more. I feel like my family is trying to kill me once again. I try to overlook thier actions against me, and pray. But what am I to do. I tride to connect to a church, it didnt work. No matter what church I go to. I have no connection with them. I dont know what else to do. I feel so alone. I gave up my friends from street life for a better life.
I have no one to talk to and no one to reach out to. I’m starting to wonder, is it all worth it. I’m trying so hard to give god my time. But I get lost into the world on my rought days. So to those who think they are going through something, think again. Some of us have it rougher.
